Letter 23 - To Mr. Heymroth, Assistant to the Mayor at Bourscheid

Paris, Seminary of the Foreign Missions. - 18 October 1846

My dear Uncle,

I wish to repair my error, to the extent possible. I had promised you that I would come to see you and I did not do it; be assured that this was not by indifference. No, it was time that was lacking; on the other hand, I avoided making farewells as much as possible. These were always heart-breaks for me that I even had to hide. Don’t be angry with me. Oh! To be sure, I would not want that for all the gold in the world, you whom Ihave always loved so very much. For me to remain in your enmity would be impossible. I am quite pleased to be here. I hope that your whole family is well. Also, please try to rear one of your children to become a missionary: that will bring happiness to the family. Goodbye, my dear uncle, goodbye my dear aunt, goodbye to the whole family; goodbye. I now hug all of you in my thoughts, as I would have done at my departure. All yours in Our Lord Jesus Christ. Deacon-aspirant at the Seminary of the ForeignMissions.
