The Seminary of the Foreign Missions, on rue du Bac, receives the
remains of Pierre Borie, killed four years earlier in Vietnam.
A return which aroused emotion, fascination and fervor. Pierre Borie had left the Seminary in 1830; the circumstances of his death were well known and had been talked about for a long time. The martyr's reliquary was housed in an upper story room and brought about an observance in the seminary (the custom of pausing there for a moment every day).
Bories reliquary was not long in isolation; the remains of other victims of the persecution in Vietnam and China were shipped to Paris. The small room having become quite crowded, along with the increasing number of visitors, brought about a move to the ground floor. Adaptation to external demands was in order.
The beatifications during the first quarter of the XXth century occasioned other modifications or displacements: two monumental reliquaries were built; they can still be seen on either side of the stairway leading to the crypt.
